Kevin McCarthy, the House Speaker, faced expulsion from his position at the hands of disgruntled Republicans who objected to his alignment with the Democrats.

Leading American media outlets have relayed that the US House of Representatives successfully ousted Kevin McCarthy from his role.

In response, McCarthy has announced his decision to refrain from pursuing the speakership in the future. This historic incident marks the inaugural instance, dating back 234 years, where the House voted against and effectively removed a Speaker from office.

The Republican-dominated House voted 216 against the Speaker. The House Speaker has been relieved of his duties with a year to go before the election.

Hard-line Republican members of the House of Representatives were furious with McCarthy for cooperating with Democrats, and Republican Matt Gates proposed the speaker’s impeachment.

 

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he has no regrets about the bipartisan talks to avert a government shutdown, saying “I will not run for speaker again.”

Patrick McHenry of the Republican Party has taken over as Acting Speaker.
